Introduction
Birdie bar & restaurant is the flagship venue at the world-class Links Kennedy Bay golf course and clubhouse. The Bistro offers a modern Australian style of dining with a fresh, seasonal menu.
My adult son (21) & I decided to visit on a Friday afternoon to enjoy a quick weekday lunch and the beautiful views of the surrounding Links Kennedy Bay golf course. We’ve had multiple meals at this venue so felt it was time to give our verdict with an honest restaurant review.

Ambience & Atmosphere
Upon arrival we noted a sea of local golfers, groups of friends on golfing days out gave the bistro a cheerful vibe. There’s plenty of local families and couples out enjoying a lunch together with kids going back & forth to the outdoor playground as soon as they have consumed their hot dogs, allowing parents 5 minutes of interrupted peace! (Why don't more restaurants have parks?! It's such a great idea and means parents can stay longer and spend more money. Smart move Birdie!)
Décor & General Layout
The décor is modern and airy with open windows to allow panoramic views of the outside golf course and the large kids playground. The massive playground is a great asset for people with children.

Music & Vibe
No music was playing. Jut the natural buzz of conversations. The vibe is relaxed.
Lighting & Temperature
Bright and airy with plenty natural sunlight thanks to the windows. Air conditioning was on to keep customers cool and comfortable.

Service & Staff
Staff Efficiency & Attentiveness
The business is run like a modern café or a bistro-style pub so you pop up to the bar to order which is standard for this type of service model. You place your order at the bar and give them your table number.
There is often a queue of people at the bar waiting to place food orders and/or drink orders. The young women serving was polite and took the order with ease.
You collect your own cutlery and water from a service station. No one told us where to collect but we found them with ease.
Welcoming Atmosphere & Customer Interaction
We were not greeted by any staff on our arrival and just found our own table. Previously, there was a wait to be seated sign, but it was not out when we visited.
No one asked if we enjoyed our meals. No one said goodbye or thanks for visiting.
Cleanliness & Hygiene
The tables were wiped down after guests left, the floors were tidy, and the cutlery and glassware were clean. The open kitchen area looked well-maintained, and the restrooms were clean and well-stocked.
Table Reservations
Reservations are available at The Birdie, which is great for those who want to avoid waiting during busy periods. There’s no extra charge for booking a table, and the process is simple—either through their website or by calling ahead. Walk-ins are also welcome, but for peak brunch hours or a sunset dinner on a weekend, a reservation is a good idea.

Food & Drinks
Menu Variety & Dietary Options
The Birdie offers an extensive menu with something for everyone. From hearty burgers to light salads and fish dishes, there’s a good balance of more indulgent and lighter choices. Vegetarian options are clearly marked, and gluten-free alternatives are available upon request.
Children’s Menu Options
For families dining in, there’s a dedicated kids' menu featuring smaller portions of classics like chicken tenders with fries. The portion sizes are appropriate for little ones, and the presentation is good. The menu can also be coloured in to keep little ones busy! I love when restaurants have colouring sheets for kids and the park outside is a massive plus for families.
Flavours & Quality of Food
My son said his pizza was good but was a little dry and overcooked. More cheese on top would have helped. (Pic below)

My fish tacos were again good but not amazing. I think using fresh avocadoes (instead of a paste) and more seasoning to the fish would help give more of a contrast in the flavours. The fresh lime and chilies' were a nice add-on.
Perfect temperature and fast delivery of food.

Overall Verdict
Overall, The Birdie in Port Kennedy is a good option for an easy meal but falls behind in service with no friendly interaction from the staff. Perhaps they were understaffed or having a bad day. It happens. I'll try again and adjust this review if the service improves. And if the pizza is less frazzled next time...
However, the amazing outdoor park and laidback vibe makes it a go-to if you have children with you. The park and outside greenery are lovely. You can easily spend a few hours here on a sunny day.
Whether you're a local or just passing through, it’s worth a visit for an easy lunch or dinner.

Please note this review is my personal opinion after multiple visits to this establishment. I do update reviews from time to time, if I have different experiences that are more positive or negative.
