We have just returned from our trip to Thailand, where we enjoyed 7 nights in the buzzing city of Bangkok and 2 weeks in the chilled beach resort of Hua Hin, approximately 3 hours south of Bangkok.
Experience the Thrill of Culinary Dare: Fried Scorpions
In Thailand, street food isn't just about sustenance; it's a way of life deeply rooted in the country's rich cultural tapestry. Every night there are outside night markets and massive indoor food halls (found in the modern shopping malls) brimming with the locals. It's incredibly cheap and a great alternative to going to restaurants. One of the most iconic street food delicacies that beckons the adventurous eater is fried scorpion. Yes, you read that right—crispy, crunchy scorpions!

Fried Scorpion - A Unique Street Delicacy
Cultural Significance of Street Food in Thailand
Street food isn't merely about quelling hunger in Thailand—it's a communal experience that brings people together. People in Thailand are very sociable and rarely stay home watching Netflix. From savoury satay skewers to aromatic coconut soups (my fav!), each dish tells a story of tradition and heritage. Locals, expats and tourists alike gather around food carts, exchanging stories and laughter as they indulge in a myriad of flavours. The street food scene is a reflection of Thailand's diverse culinary heritage, where recipes are passed down through generations, each laden with history and pride.
Restaurants in Thailand - Go Posh or Eat on the Beach
Hit the Trip Advisor app and type in "restaurants near me" and you'll be a tad overwhelmed by the choices available. Reassuringly for people travelling with kids, or more conservative taste buds, there are thousands of Western style food options everywhere. In particular, the Thai people really seem to love Italian food. They have so many pizza places!
A cool option is eating your dinner on the beach with your feet touching the sand, as the sunsets on another day. This is relaxed option that proves popular with the locals and holiday makers.

Hubby enjoyed a stir-fry seasoned with fresh lemongrass and ginger. The rice is often presented with an omelette on top in Thailand.
Exploring Thailand's food scene isn't just about satisfying hunger—it's a journey of cultural immersion and culinary delight. But equally, everyone is well catered from with plenty international food options.
Most menu's (even the incredibly swanky places) offer kids menu's with the typical options such as chicken nuggets! Not everyone is a spice fan, right? And boy do the Thai's like to add spice! I had a pasta dish and it was insanely spicy. Wowza.

Our 9 year old isn't a fan of spice! Thankfully there were plenty options for him too.
Have you visited Thailand? It's a great country with so much to offer! It gets the thumbs up from us.
